Pretty Woman and Jewelry
Imagine if the scene in "Pretty Woman" where Richard Gere closes the jewelry box on Julia Roberts hand wasn’t in the movie? Well can you believe it almost wasn’t? The scene was originally intended for the gag reel. We wouldn’t have this iconic Movie Moment and one of the best Jewelry moments in a movie if it was used the way they had planned.
The ruby-and-diamond necklace was indeed worth the quarter million dollars in real life that Richard Gere’s character claimed it was. In fact, there was an armed security guard with the necklace at all times during filming! That’s one impressive bit of jewelry.
Sweet Home Alabama
What girl wouldn’t want to be taken into a jewelry store and be told, “Pick One?” Reese Witherspoon’s character in "Sweet Home Alabama" doesn’t have to imagine this dream because it was her reality. Talk about a perfect proposal!
Titanic
The Heart of the Ocean necklace in Titanic brings some beauty to the tragic story. As the story goes, the blue diamond was originally owned by Louis XVI and given to Rose by her fiancee on the boat before it sank. Spoiler Alert: an older Rose then drops it back into the ocean at the end.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Benjamin Barrett, the leading man, spends the movie working on an advertising campaign for a diamond company. The work leads up to a party where women can “Frost Themselves” with diamonds for the evening, (sounds like a great party). Kate Hudson’s characters gets to wear an amazing necklace with an 84-carat yellow diamond pendant which is valued at $5,280,000.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Marilyn Monroe had it right when she sang “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." Although the movie is based on a play, Monroe makes it memorable with her hot pink dress and diamond accessories.
Although there are many other jewelry moments, these are some of our favorites. What’s your favorite jewelry movie moment?
